Tour time for The Chemist

The Chemist return ahead their debut album "Ballet In The Badlands". They are touring Australia this February off the back of their current single "Spray Paint or Praise (still a statue in the wind)" and in support of their second new single "Silver & Gold", which hits radio on February 11th.

The band had this to say about their upcoming tour:
"A cheeseburger is a hamburger topped with cheese. Traditionally, the slice of cheese is placed on top of the meat patty, but the burger can include many variations in structure, ingredients, and composition.
The four of us dishonest dish pigs will be galavanting across this country in search of the ultimate cheeseburger. We will be punching at least one cheese burger in every city, so your recommendations will be appreciated. The winning city wins a lifetime supply of gratitude from the band for at least 12 months.
This also makes it easy for anyone who wants to lay shit on us because the cheese pun iz staring you in the cranium.
We figured we may as well do a couple of shows whilst we were at it. Come down, don't be a clown."

Craig Schuftan presents The Rise and Fall of Alternative Rock in words and music:

Remember that dream you had where Girl Talk was your high school history teacher?

“Today’s class is about Alternative rock in the early 90s” he said, moving over toward the decks. “Here’s a little something I prepared earlier...”

Well, this is going to be like that, only real.

Author, broadcaster and radio producer Craig Schuftan presents the extraordinary tale of the rise and fall of Alt-rock, 1990-1994, in words and music. A lively, literate talk on the reality boom and subsequent bust, with a soundtrack that would be like nothing you’ve ever heard before, if it didn’t all sound so damn familiar.

To bring his story to life, Schuftan has assembled a collage of stolen moments - noises, voices, drums, bass and guitars - from a half-decade of music and music journalism. It’s propelled by beats, and fired by noise. It’s informed by a century of debate on the philosophy of history, and it makes a none-too subtle argument for teenage revolution, the abolition of private property, and just generally being less of a jerk in future. It’s quiet, then loud, then oh-so-quiet again.

It begins in Anthony Kiedis’s girlfriend’s closet.

We’d tell you how it ends, but we don’t want to give it away now.

Currently living in Berlin, Craig Schuftan has written three books on music and popular culture; The Culture Club (2007), Hey! Nietzsche! Leave Them Kids Alone! (2009) and Entertain Us! The Rise and Fall of Alternative Rock in the 90s which was published in June 2012

AAM announce new board members

The Association of Artist Managers is pleased to announce three Executive Members to join the Board of Directors, at the Annual General Meeting held last Friday November 30.

Greg Carey (Umbrella Music – Ruben’s, Cloud Control, Urthboy), Claire Collins (Bossy Music – Yes You, Art Vs Science) and Ben Preece (Mucho Bravado – Hungry Kids of Hungary, Ball Park Music) will join the board of directors that already includes, Bill Cullen, Briese Abbott, Denny Burgess, Buzz Bidstrup, Tom Harris and Catherine Haridy.

The board took the opportunity to also meet on Friday to assign the board structure for 2013, including reelecting Cath Haridy to Chairperson, Briese Abbott as Vice Chair and Tom Harris from White Sky as Treasurer.

The board members standing down this year included Kim Thomas, Gregg Donovan and Heath Bradby – the AAM would like to recognise the outstanding contributions to the organisation each member provided. Including Kim Thomas who was fundamental in the establishment of the AAM.

Retaining Chair Person, Cath Haridy says; “This year the AAM farewells Gregg Donovan, Kim Thomas and Heath Bradby from the board – we are grateful for their outstanding contribution to establishing the AAM as the peak body for artist management,”

“This year we’re lucky to welcome three young, active and high profile managers who’ll bring the AAM into it’s next phase of industry development” Haridy continued.

Vice Chair, Briese Abbott reflected on the year “It’s been a busy year for the AAM, we launched a website, a mentoring program and had a presence at most national conferences, with the new board in place we’re already looking at the projects to work on in 2013.”

The AAM will launch a Patron’s program to capture the skills, profile and contribution that each past-board member has contributed to the association.

The AAM is the peak body, representing the issue effecting music managers and their artists.

The Chemist return with swagger in spades. New track "Spray Paint or Praise (still a statue in the wind)" is a concoction of sounds that only the mind of front man Ben Witt could meld together. The track is driven by a snare heavy drum groove mingling with intertwining guitar sounds and topped off with Ben's distinct vocal. The enigmatic swamp rock sound alludes to what's to come from the band in 2013.

But we can now let you know there is new music coming from Bob Evans very soon! Tune into Triple J Breakfast on Monday to hear Bob chat with Tom and Alex in studio and present his new single (which we just simply think is a piece of truly top notch songwriting and are ready to promise you that you'll be humming from now til at least Xmas).

With your help we have made some headway - the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator the Hon Stephen Conroy, has indicated that the government is investigating a range of options for Amrap’s continuation. Now we need your help to ensure that all Federal MPs and Senators are aware that they need to support the restoration of funding to Amrap in the mid-year Federal Budget review – which commences later in September.
